Have You Booked Your Summer Holiday?

Posted by: Friday, 01 March 2013.

Christmas has gone, Easter is almost here, and everyone is thinking about their summer holidays. But why not leave the jetlag at home this year, and book a stay at a ZeroNet site instead?

With many ZeroNet sites offering complementary electric car charging to guests and many more generating eco-friendly renewable electricity to recharge your car on-site, there’s never been a better time to take your electric car and your family on a UK holiday.

So ditch the queues at check-in load up your electric car, and pick a hotel, hostel, bed & breakfast, or cottage to stay at this summer.

And while you’re at it, why not pick a few ZeroNet attractions that will charge your car while you have fun?

To help you make your choice, here are a few personal favorites from the crew at Zero Carbon World.

Zero Carbon World Founder and Patron Kevin Sharpe just adores Ullswater Steamers in Cubmria.

An award-winning environmental accredited attraction offering authentic steam cruises on the second largest lake in the Lake District, Ullswater Steamers will charge your electric car in Glenridding while you enjoy the amazing views and serene landscape of the Ullswater Valley.

“I love the idea of cruising the lakes while my EV charges,” says Kevin. “Plus you get the chance to see Lady of the Lake, the oldest working passenger vessel in the world!”

For Zero Carbon World Marketing Manager Charlie Roberts, the choice of holiday locations are simple.

“I’d love to visit Best Western Walworth Castle in an electric car,” Charlie enthuses. “It’s been around since the 12th century and has bucket-loads of history. There are an incredible 18 acres of beautiful lawns and woodlands to explore with your children, and it has two amazing restaurants. Plus it’s a real castle, with real suits of armor and turrets! Who wouldn’t want visit!?”

Charlie is also fond of The Moat House in Stafford.

“It’s a beautiful four-star period hotel within easy reach of the M6. The food is outstanding, the nearby canal is perfect for romantic evening walks, and the staff are wonderful. It’s a must-visit hotel.”

Cara Naden, Zero Carbon World Project Manager, is dreaming of spending a relaxing afternoon taking in the full spa treatment at Langdale Hotel and Spa in the Lake District.

“If you need an excuse to visit the Lake District – and who doesn’t – Langdale is perfect for you. Let the stresses and strains of everyday life float away as you get pampered,” she says. “And when you’re done you can enjoy the Langdale’s twin AA Rosette restaurant.”

There’s even more. Langdale even hires out Renault Twizys to guests, so while your own electric car charges you can get close to nature on beautiful mountain roads in Renault’s fun and funky two-seater.

Cara also recommends Llyndir Hall Hotel & Spa near Chester.

“Just down the road from the Roman city of Chester, this North Wales hotel is a great place to visit,” Cara says. “With acres of grounds and beautiful walks nearby, Llyndir Hall combines luxury pampering with breathtaking views, making it a place you’ll want to stay.”

Zero Carbon World Communications Manager Mark Chatterley nominates the Arden Hotel Waterside LLP  as the perfect place to stay for anyone who wants to experience the home town of the Bard.

“Shakespeare’s birthplace occupies a special place in my heart,” says Mark. “Situated just opposite the world-renowned RSC Theatres, the Arden Hotel is the perfect place to stay while immersing yourself in the work of this amazing playwright.”

And Mark knows: last year, he spent weekend exploring Stratford Upon Avon while his Nissan Leaf charged at the Zero Carbon World Charging Station in The Arden’s car park.

Like the rest of the Zero Carbon World team, I like to visit ZeroNet sites with my family.

This year, I’m going on holiday to the wonderful Orkney Crofts on Orkney’s main island. We’re staying at a five-star self-catering cottage along with our kids, our dogs, and of course, a plug-in car.

Thanks to ZeroNet, we’ll be able to explore all of the Orkney Islands without burning a single drop of petrol!
